Library skills training
Since March, 2003, Information Services staff and Information Resources staff have attended a skills training
course which is focused on: searching print and online, searching the Web, managing information services
resources, resource evaluation, processing procedures, acquisitions, circulation procedures, reserves,
classification by subject headings, training the trainers, web page organization, helpdesk staff and
responsibilities, customer liaison skills, collection evaluation or weeding.
These are steps taken to equip LRC staff with high professional skills as well as problem solving capacity
Surveys for needs
In April, 2003, Audio-Visual Fair was held to grant a chance for LRC’s partners to present their audio-visual
materials and products to staff of LRC and Hue University. This proves to be necessary to obtain general
points of view in definition of LRC’s source of materials afterwards.
Information acquisition for Institutional Reconstructing Project in higher
education was what we performed in May, 2003.
In June, 2003, we implemented a survey on a large scale into computer-based activities and needs among
Hue University members. The survey focused on students, teachers and post graduates.
In collaboration with Cheer for Vietnam, we, in July, 2003, did organize Vietnam Teacher Training Program
to strengthen English teaching skills for teachers in Hue high schools and universities.
What we have conducted are still in LRC preliminary framework in exploring readers’ need and
at the same time broadly advertising our image.
Personal Computer Workstations
There are 150 to 200 PC in Learning Resource Center and this number expectedly increases by
300 in the near future. You can get access to necessary information swiftly, which is far different
from usual approach to library resources.
